You’ll learn about the process of introducing pigments/stains to their clay bodies to create rich sonic pallets (colours will range on the day).

Throughout the lesson, guidance, techniques and methods from an experienced pottery teacher will be shared, discussed and implemented with a key focus revolving around marbling or more commonly known in the pottery world as Neriage. Neriage was made popular in Japan and is termed as an artistic technique for creating Japanese pottery in multiple colours of clay.

Once the pieces have been created, they’ll be dried for sometime and receive 2 x firings - the first a bisque fire and the second a glaze fire (making the pieces food safe and dishwasher safe). There is an option to leave the clay raw (without glaze) - just ask your teacher. This class doesn’t allow you to glaze the pots, as the main focus is on the marbling. tThe glaze that will go onto the pieces will be translucent showcasing the marbled effect.

What if you can't come back a second time to glaze?

No worries at all! Simply choose your glaze combo at the end of your session, and we’ll take care of the glazing for you. For an additional flat rate of $80.00, we’ll ship your pieces directly to your door, fully insured up to $100.00. Rest assured, we wrap all our pottery with great care to ensure it arrives safely and in one piece.

Age Requirements: These classes are suitable for 14+ year olds. Parents are required to attend/partake in class for children under 14-years-old, so don't forget to book in early to reserve your spots. If you wish for your child who might be younger than 14 to attend a wheel throwing class, keep your eye's peeled for our school holiday program where ages 8-years-old and up are able to attend.

6-week intensive wheel throwing course: Once you’ve completed the intro class, you’ll be given a ticket and opportunity to further your passion for pottery and partake in a 6-week intensive wheel throwing course. This course was designed to allow the new potter to discover and practice the basic mechanics of throwing clay on the wheel.
